I live my live with very few regrets, I've been lucky in many regards, great up bringing, loving family and friends.
I've had fun, danger, things to tell my grandkids and things that I will take to my grave, but few regrets. Here is one... I never became the drummer I think I could have been. Again I had all the support. My Mom and Dad were actually o.k. with having a 14 year beating the crap out of a drum set in their home!!! Looking back I can see clearly what happened, I liked being a drummer but not enough to sacrifice, sacrifice the time to practice, sacrifice partying and girls. To be really great it has to be your first love, it was my love but I cheated and she never forgives.
I was lucky enough to see Buddy Rich live back in I would say the mid-late 70s and he blew my mind, I picked up the sticks not long after and got good but never great. Buddy was great, real great, most say the best ever, others would say he was a more of showman. There is Krupa vs Rich vs. Roach, Bonham vs Moon, Lars vs Lombardo ( Dave hands down BTW).
But no matter who you think is the best, a great drummer can make a show and not just with the over wrought 20 minutes solo ( Alex Van Halen....yawn). I never caught the Motley Crue bug, maybe just a bad rash with Too Fast for Love that was about it, but Tommy Lee was worth admission, a total bad ass. Some of the best were the opening band drummers. Of course Carl Canedy of The Rods if there is a house band in hell they are waiting for Carl before they jam, a big mean looking s.o.b. kicked ass I can still picture his solo it was life changing. Countless other I will blog about in the future.
For now here is Buddy and Tonight Show Drummer Ed Shaughnessy gettin it on!

Rocka Rolla Women....
I recently saw a “behind the music” on Fleetwood Mac. Drugs, love triangles etc. etc. And it took me back to when I thought Stevie was so hot, all witchy and doe eyed, I’d stare at the little pictures inside Rumors for hours. This got me thinking about the other sirens that were around when I was an adolescence boy with dreams of blondes dancing in my head. I always thought chicks in bands were hot. Suzi Quatro was probably the first for me, of course she was Leather Tuscadaro on Happy Days, not Suzi Q. At the dawn of the decade a new element introduced a new musical medium, the video & M T.V. Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Kim Wilde, the totally kick ass Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders…just name a few.
Then I remembered the chick from Missing Persons in her see through outfits and that got me thinking about how nothing is new. Lady Gaga gets all this airtime for being a wacky chick when in fact….its all been done!! And it was done by a kick ass chick in a kick ass band…ladies and germs I give you…Wendy O. Williams and The Plasmatic!!!
Stevie, a siren for the ages....

Suzie Quatro
MTV brought chicks in leather pants into our home!
Ms.Jett
Ms. Ford
More Runaways,( talk about every things been done) I could be a post just on them... maybe I will....Cherie below
so you are saying, "yeah Tank I get it all those girls are good looking, but Wendy O"?
HELL YEAH!!
I still remember the video for The Damned!!! epic!! leather and shit blowing up!!! (see below)
Mr.666 made me a tape back in the day with " Black Leather Monster" on it, man I love that song.
If you doubt the musicianship trust me it's as good as any metal band and better then most of, if not all NY punk at the time. Gone but not forgotten THE METAL PRIESTESS
this was 1982 so remember, if you see a "meat dress" or a taped over nipple do some research, it's been done!

...a date which will live in infamy
This blog is about things that kick ass, war and its many guises do not kick ass, but through-out history people have had to resort to (under very extreme conditions) violence. The reasons for Japan to challenge the USA were primarily the oil embargo placed on them as a result of their aggressive expansionism of the time. And perhaps with our Allies busy holding off the Axis powers they thought it was the best time to challenge the USA's domains in the Pacific. Regardless as Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto has been credited with saying,
" I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." .....
aaaaa....YEP!
" I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." .....
aaaaa....YEP!
and we brought the heat...
but it seems they had their own take too...
This could not have been an easy decision...
I don't want to make too much of this, but the obeisance is revolting, our commander in chief should be above such things, regardless of custom.

That 70's Blog
Recently I've been a little nostalgic for a time that for the most part I was just a kid during. I was strung out on Slurpees and Charlie's Angels ( my first love was Jaclyn Smith...Farah my second!!) I was learning this new "fad" skateboarding,. I had an actual 2x4 with an old metal skate screwed onto it, my old man eventually scored me a "sand-board" and we put some trucks on it and it kicked ass!!!
But for better or worse my images of the 70s are either through the eyes of a child or Richard Linklater. When I see pictures of my and my family from these times we had the look down. My sisters sporting extra long hair and wings! My brother with long hair and a beard, my mom with hair parted in the middle and hoop earrings, my old man....well he looks the same, exactly the same.. me dorky. Here are some images that make me wish gas prices were high ( oh wait they are ) the President was running the country into the ground ( oh wait he is) and kids were cool ( they are not).
I've learned to embrace the other big two....

Yes even Kate was hot!
I knew cars even then...
